For some reason, I woke up this morning with Dick’s name on my mind. I haven’t seen him in several years (maybe 10), so I decided to look him up on the Internet. I still have his phone number, so I’ll give him a buzz later today. Tears rushed to my eyes when I came across the news of his passing. I really wish I had thought to call him before today.

I think it was in 1968, when I lived in Charleston an Dick ran the BMW motorcycle dealership south of Olney, that I bought a new 600cc BMW from him. We had done some business before that, including the time I rode my 1958 250cc BMW to the shop, strapped the boxes containing a set of new saddlebags to the bike, and headed back to Charleston. Every time Dick and I visited, we laughed about the image of me going down the road with all those boxes strapped to my bike.

Dick was a great guy; always friendly and easy going. I used to travel in my job and I would stop by his house/shop between Oblong and Robinson, unannounced. It was always like some kind of a reunion when we got together. He came to Springfield for my 50th birthday party, over 15 years ago, and we sat out in the garage after everyone else had left, until 3:00am, talking about the good ol’ days.

I just can’t say enough about Dick, but I’ve taken up too much space here already. My condolences to his son, daughters and the rest of his family. I really wish I had thought to call him before today.

    Ride safe, old friend.

Gary, I don’t recall if I have ever met you, if I have, sorry. Few things brought more joy to my Dad than bikes and his friends that rode them. Thanks for being a good friend to him and for your kind words. God bless you and yours.

      Steve Myers

    Myers Family,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of Dick. I knew him from “Calhoun Methodist Church family” where he attended regularly with mother and siblings. Over the years I was kept updated on the family by Dorothy, and on rare occasion Betty and Marie; and his cousin Ron/wife Angel are continuing good friends since high school. I know there is acceptance for Dick’s relief from suffering, and many precious memories that will always be with you; but, the pain of separation makes “now” a painful time that no words can take away. My thoughts and prayers to the whole family from my current home in Leesburg, VA.
