Rev. Harold H. "Preacher Harold" Holliday, 88, Oblong, Illinois went home to be with his Lord at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Cotillion Ridge, Robinson, Illinois. Born June 6, 1922, near Murphysboro, Illinois he was the son of Ira Holliday and Maude Naomi (Bailey) Holliday. He graduated from the four year Course of Study School held at Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. Harold entered the ministry in 1950 serving churches in southern Illinois as a local pastor and working in maintenance at Good Luck Glove Factory in Carbondale, Illinois. He retired in 1987 from the Oblong E. U. M. Church after 13 years of service. After retiring he was served as pastor of the West Liberty Church for the next 7 years. Other churches he served in the area were St. Francisville, Sand Barrens and Billett. He was a member of the Oblong E. U. M. Church. Harold enjoyed country music, reading, fishing, playing his guitar, singing gospel songs and writing poems. His fun time was being with the grandchildren.
On January 15, 1955, he married Wanda Lorene Walker, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Pat McCloskey and Janet Doyle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve & Carol Holliday and Tim & Denise Holliday; five grandchildren, Sherry Lynch, Heather Holliday, Heath Holliday, Rachel Holliday & Andrew Holliday; three great-grandchildren; four-half brothers, Calvin & Pauline Carlock, Ralph & Bonnie Carlock, Paul & Caron Carlock and Charles Carlock; several nieces and nephews.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; step-father; his first wife, Pearl Sills Holliday; a sister, Ruby Benefield; a half-sister Rosie Williams; two brothers-in-law and two sons-in-law.
His love for Christ was an inspiration to all who knew him. His family can take comfort in knowing that he allowed Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of his life.
Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Howard Bell. Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
