Eric Ford Haussermann, 76, formerly of Champaign, IL died in Springdale, Arkansas, Saturday, July 18, 2009. He was born March 25, 1933, to Dr. Charles Ford Haussermann and his wife Priscilla Ruth Wilcox at Urbana, IL. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Anna Marie; son John Ford (Heather), daughters, Norma Louise White (Phillip) and Patricia Jane Outlaw (James) four grandchildren; brother Dr. Alan Haussermann (Claire) and sister Sandra Bortz (Robert), brother-in-law, Clarence Halterman (Josephine), sisters-in-law, Martha Vanderhoof (Merl) and Gladys Winterrowd.
Eric was a graduate from Parkland College and Eastern Illinois University. Eric always wanted to be a firefighter. He had been involved with Illinois Fireman's Association since 1948. He retired from the Champaign Fire Department in 1979. He was an instructor for the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute and was instrumental in the development of the Fire Science Program at Parkland College. In Northwest Arkansas he guided the Fire Training Program at the Northwest Vo-Tec in gaining the second only Certified Program in the State. Leaving Arkansas he taught at the Fire Service Institute at Oklahoma State University. He retired from there in 1989. He was a member of the International Fire Service Training Association. In 1993 he retired as a Sergeant Major from the U. S. Army Reserve after serving his country for 41 years. He served in a wide variety of locations and positions thru his long military career.
